Overview
IntelliShift is upgrading our legacy Hours of Service ("HOS") feature in favor of HOS with In The Field ("HOS with ITF")—a modernized, more intuitive solution built for the evolving needs of today’s fleets. This update includes the mobile In The Field app, allowing drivers and fleet managers to track HOS on the go, or “in the field,” as the name suggests, with their smartphone or tablet.
We want to ensure you have a clear pathway to success implementing your HOS with ITF solution. Below you will find how to view and access the module. You will also find a checklist to ensure that your Hours of Service module and Logbook are properly set up and ready to launch!

Viewing Hours of Service
To view the Hours of Service service module, select the “Hours of Service (New)” service module on the left-hand navigation panel.
Accessing Hours of Service
To view the Hours of Service module, you must have the "Hours of Service (New)" Permissions toggle active in your user settings. Only Account Administrators and Administrators can change your permissions.
To allow a user to view HOS with ITF, follow these steps:
Choose the correct permissions for the user.
- Hours of Service (New)Toggle (1)
- Activating this toggle will allow access to the HOS with ITF "Hours of Service (New)" service module.
- Drive Time Toggle (2)
- Activating this toggle will allow access to the “Drive Time” menu items including unassigned and manually assigned drive time.
- Read Toggle: View Only
- Read/Write Toggle: View and Edit
- Log Edits Toggle (3)
- Activating this toggle will allow access to the “Log Edits” menu items including Operator Log Edits and the Office Log Edits.
- Read Toggle: View Only
- Read/Write Toggle: View and Edit
- Tools Toggle (4)
- Activating this toggle will allow access to the “Tools” menu items including “Motor Carriers,” “Rules & Assignments,” and “Rules & Overrides.”
- Read Toggle: View Only
- Read/Write Toggle: View and Edit
- All: View, Edit, and Delete Data
Hours of Service Navigation Overview
The top navigation bar includes
- Logs drop down containing the Drivers Current Cycle, Historical Operator Logs, and Asset Logs (1)
- Drive Time drop down containing Unassigned drive time and Manually Assigned drive time (2)
- Log Edits drop down containing Operator Log Edits and Office Log Edits (3)
- Inspections navigation leading to a list of completed inspections (4)
- Tools drop down containing Motor Carriers, Rules & Assignments, and Rules & Overrides (5)
Hours of Service Setup Checklist
For proper HOS with ITF setup, please review the checklist below.
Please note, if you are currently using IntelliShift’s legacy HOS, you will need to migrate to our updated service. Instead of following the list below, follow the migration plan as prescribed by IntelliShift in the "Migration Action Plan."
Prep Steps:
- Ensure your IntelliShift fleet list is accurate
- Administration > Assets
- Ensure your IntelliShift branches are accurate
- Administration > Branches
- Ensure your IntelliShift Company Pin is set
- Administration > Company Pin
- Ensure your IntelliShift operators list is accurate and each driver has an assigned pin number
- Administration > Operators
HOS Setup:
- Set up your HOS motor carrier
- HOS (New) > Tools > Motor Carriers
- Set up your HOS rules
- HOS (New) > Tools > Rules & Assignments
- Set up your HOS digital inspections (i.e., DVIR)
- (If you have purchased the Inspect service module, you will need to navigate to Inspect > Form Builder to customize your inspection form before selecting an inspection form in HOS V2.)
- HOS (New) > Tools > Rules & Assignments
Operator Prep:
- Ensure all devices have the updated In The Field mobile app version 4.0 or above
- For Apple devices, you can download this app from the Apple App store.
- For Android devices, you can download this from the Google Play store.
- Ensure all vehicles have a physical copy of the In The Field Operators Guide
- IntelliShift will mail updated guides to your branch. Please reach out to your Account Manager with any questions.
- Ensure all drivers are trained and prepared to use In The Field as their ELD solution.
