Overview
When the DOT conducts an internal audit of your fleet, IntelliShift’s FMCSA submission tools allow you to submit operator logs for review.
Please note: this article only covers office FMCSA submissions. Operators should use the Operator Guide within their cab or found within the help center here for steps to complete their submission.
If you have any questions as to what's needed from the FMCSA during an audit, please consult legal advice. Administrators can use the [FMCSA website](https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-of-service) to understand FMCSA requirements.

Submit Logs to the FMCSA (Guided Walkthrough)
Follow these steps to submit to the FMCSA:
Using the Filters to Select Logs for Submission
When submitting logs to the FMCSA, ensure you have the correct operators and dates as required by the audit. First, navigate to List View by following these steps:
-
Select the "Hours of Service (New)" service module.
-
Select the "Logs" dropdown menu and select "Operator" to view the current cycle list.
-
Whether submitting multiple operators' logs or one, select the clipboard icon to the right-hand side of any operator to view "List View."
In the Operator Logs List View, you can
- View and remove the current filter by selecting the "x" within the filter pill icon (1)
- Open the "Filters" options (2)
- Filter by a date range (3)
- Filter by branch/DOT (4)
- Type in this field to search by a specific branch name. A dropdown menu will appear with search results. Check the box next to the branch name you want to include. You can take these steps to add multiple branches.
- Filter by operator (5)
- Type in this field to search by a specific operator's name. A dropdown menu will appear with search results. Check the box next to the operator's name you want to include. You can take these steps to add multiple operators.
- Select "Apply" to apply filters.
Please note: logs older than six months will not be submitted, which protects your fleet from being fined for violations that are outside of the DOT audit window.
FMCSA Submission Process
Once operators and dates have been selected, use the “Submit to FMCSA” button to submit the logs.
When you click "Submit to FMCSA," you will be guided to select submission configurations.
- Choose from email or web service for the submission method.
- Use the comments section to add an inspection reference number so the submission can be tied back to your fleet.
- Before the submission is sent, review the details of the submission.
Please note: this article only covers office FMCSA submissions. Operators should use the Operator Guide within their cab or found within the help center here for steps to complete their submission.
